MOE School Teacher Salary & Career Opportunities

Singapore’s education system is renowned for its excellence, and the career opportunities it offers are equally impressive. With a wide range of educational institutions and programs, Singapore offers students a wealth of opportunities to pursue their dreams. Under MOE, there are 3 categories of MOE teachers:

  1. Education Officers (EOs)
  2. Allied Educators (AEDs) – not NIE-trained
  3. MOE Kindergarten Educators (MKEs)

The Singaporean government has invested heavily in its education system, and the country is now home to some of the world’s best universities and schools. From prestigious international universities to world-class technical and vocational institutions, Singapore has something to offer everyone.

For those looking to pursue a career in education, Singapore offers a wealth of opportunities. From teaching and research positions in universities and colleges, to positions in government and private institutions, there are plenty of options available.

MOE Teaching Salary

The salary of MOE teaching salary is competitive and varies depending on the type of institution and the position. Generally, salaries range from S$2,000 to S$6,000 per month for teachers and S$4,000 to S$8,000 per month for senior positions. Those working in private institutions can expect to earn more than those in government-funded institutions.

Separately, MOE school teachers can also provide tuition outside of school hours, subject to maximum of 6 hours of tuition per week, among other criteria. This would greatly boost a teacher’s income as tuition rates for MOE School teachers start at $45/h for the Primary level, up to $120/h for JC levels. Many ex-teachers go on to start private tuition centres once they have completed a few years of teaching in school, reinforcing the earning power from the private education sector.

Salary Increment (Oct 2022)

Three groups of MOE staff – Education Officers (EOs), Allied Educators (AEDs) and MOE Kindergarten Educators (MKEs) – will receive salary adjustments from 1 October 2022. This is to ensure that their overall salary packages remain competitive, and so that MOE can continue to attract and retain good educators.

Some 35,000 serving EOs, 1,600 AEDs and 800 MKEs will receive a 5% to 10% increase in their monthly salaries. Salaries for EOs and AEDs were last reviewed in 2015, while the MKE scheme was only introduced in 2019.

Enhancements to Education Scheme of Service (Effective in 2023)

New General Education Officer (GEO) 5A substantive grade

A new GEO 5A substantive grade will be created to better recognise the valuable contributions of good-performing teachers in this grade who do not hold a Key Personnel (KP) appointment. Examples of KP appointments include Subject Head or Senior Teacher appointments. Currently, these EOs who do not hold KP appointments and who would typically continue as classroom teachers can progress up to the GEO 5 substantive grade, while those who hold KP appointments can be promoted to the Senior Education Officer (SEO) substantive grades.

From next year, non-KP EOs at the maximum salary point of GEO 5 substantive grade who meet the performance criteria for promotion can progress to GEO 5A and benefit from a higher salary ceiling, which will be between that of the GEO 5 and SEO 1 substantive grades.

Enhancements to CONNECT Plan

MOE will also enhance the CONNECT Plan, a 30-year retention plan for EOs where a flat rate quantum ranging from $3,200 to $8,320 is set aside for officers each year depending on their length of service, and payouts comprising a proportion of the money accumulated are given every 3 to 5 years of an officer’s career. Starting from 2023, the CONNECT Plan will see an overall enhancement of about 20%, as the annual deposit quantum and payout ratio will be raised to better support officers in the earlier years of their career.

Teachers are the core of our education system. Beyond these enhancements to the Education Scheme of Service, MOE will continue to provide opportunities for our educators to learn and develop throughout the course of their career. This includes providing in-service courses to help teachers deepen their content mastery and pedagogy, as well as exposing teachers to diverse experiences outside the classroom through external work attachments.

Salary for Examiners & Invigilators (PSLE, O Level, A Level)

PSLE examiners

The Ministry of Education (MOE) of Singapore has recently announced the salary of its primary school leaving examination (PSLE). According to the announcement, the salary of the PSLE examiners will be increased by 6.5% from the current $1,000 to $1,065.

The salary hike is a result of the increasing workload of the examiners due to the increased number of students taking the PSLE. The examiners are responsible for the marking of the papers and ensuring the accuracy of the results.

The salary increase will be effective from 1st July 2020. The MOE has also stated that the examiners will be provided with additional benefits such as medical and dental insurance, as well as a transport allowance.

The salary increase is a welcome move by the MOE as it will help to ensure that the examiners are adequately compensated for their hard work and dedication. It is also hoped that the salary increase will encourage more people to take up the job of PSLE examiner and help to ensure the quality of the examination

O Level examiners

Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that the salary for O Level examination invigilators will be increased from $7.50 to $8.50 per hour. This is the first salary adjustment for the invigilators since the exam fee was raised in 2018.

The new salary rate will take effect from 1 July 2021 and will apply to all invigilators who are appointed to supervise the O Level examinations. The MOE said that the salary increase is to ensure that invigilators are adequately compensated for their work.

The MOE also stated that the salary increase is part of its commitment to ensure that invigilators are given fair and reasonable remuneration for their work. The MOE added that it is also committed to providing invigilators with the necessary training and support to ensure that they are able to carry out their duties in a professional and efficient manner.

The MOE also stated that the salary increase is in line with the government’s commitment to provide quality education to all Singaporeans. The MOE said that it is important to ensure that invigilators are adequately compensated for their work in order to ensure that the O Level examinations are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

The MOE also said that it will continue to review the salary of invigilators and make adjustments when necessary. The MOE added that it will also continue to ensure that invigilators are provided with the necessary training and support to ensure that they are able to carry out their duties in a professional and efficient manner.

A Level examiners

A recent report has revealed that the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) has increased the salary of A Level examination invigilators.

The new salary structure, which was announced by the MOE on Monday, will see invigilators receive an additional $2 per hour for their services. This means that invigilators will now receive a base rate of $10 per hour, with an additional $2 for every hour of invigilation.

The move has been welcomed by invigilators, who have long been calling for better pay and working conditions. The new salary structure is seen as a recognition of the hard work and dedication of invigilators, who are responsible for ensuring that examinations are conducted in a fair and orderly manner.

The new salary structure will come into effect from 1 January 2021. It is expected to benefit over 1,000 invigilators who are employed by the MOE.

The MOE has also announced that it will be providing additional training and support to invigilators, in order to ensure that they are well-equipped to carry out their duties.

The move is seen as a positive step towards improving the working conditions of invigilators in Singapore. It is hoped that the new salary structure will help to attract more invigilators to the profession, and encourage existing invigilators to remain in the profession
